Love Shayari

Tender, romantic verses for the one your heart keeps returning to.

By Banale EditorialUpdated

Love shayari is the oldest current in Urdu and Hindi poetry — the language people reach for when plain words feel too small. These verses are written in that spirit: longing and tenderness, the ache of distance and the quiet of being understood, said in a couple of lines you can send without explaining yourself.

They are original, family-safe and meant to be shared — with a partner, a long-distance someone, or simply saved for the day you find the right person to send them to. Each appears in Devanagari, in roman script, and with an English meaning, so nothing of the feeling is lost in translation.

Teri aankhon mein jo thehar sa gaya hoon main, Khud ko dhoondhta hoon, tujhmein kho gaya hoon main.

Having come to rest in your eyes, I now search for myself — I have lost me, somewhere inside you.

Mohabbat koi shor nahin karti, Bas tere hone se duniya hari lagti.

Love makes no noise at all — it is just that, because you exist, the whole world looks green again.

Dooriyan chahe jitni bhi hon darmiyaan, Dil ki dhadkan mein tera hi naam hai.

However much distance lies between us, it is your name alone that beats inside my heart.

Tujhe paane ki dua har roz maangta hoon, Har subah tere naam se shuru karta hoon.

Every day I pray to be granted you; every morning I begin with your name on my lips.

Teri ek muskaan pe sab kuchh vaar doon, Tu kahe to aasmaan bhi utaar loon.

For one smile of yours I would give away everything — say the word and I’d bring down the sky.

Ishq mein hisaab-kitaab nahin hota, Jo dil de de, wo phir wapas nahin hota.

In love there is no keeping of accounts — the heart you give away never comes back to you.

Tu saath ho to har mausam bahaar hai, Tere bina to dhoop bhi bekaar hai.

With you beside me every season is spring; without you even the sunlight feels of no use.

Tera zikr aate hi lab muskura dete hain, Ye dil bhi ajab hai, tujh pe aa jaate hain.

The moment you are mentioned, my lips break into a smile — this strange heart, it keeps falling for you.

Tere bina ye dil kahaan lagta hai, Har khushi mein bas tera hi naam sajta hai.

Without you this heart settles nowhere — in every joy it is your name alone that adorns it.

Na daulat dekhi, na koi maqaam, Bas teri ek jhalak, aur dil hua ghulaam.

I looked at neither wealth nor standing — one glimpse of you, and my heart became its willing captive.

Teri yaadon ke sahaare raat kat jaati hai, Subah tere khayaal se hi shuru ho jaati hai.

On the strength of your memories the night passes; and morning begins with nothing but the thought of you.

Keh doon jo dil ki baat to sharma na jaana, Tu hi meri pehli, tu hi aakhiri kahaani.

If I say what is in my heart, do not blush and turn away — you are my first, and you are my last story.

Tumne bas chai theek se banaayi thi, Aur mujhe ghar jaisa lagne laga.

All you did was make the tea exactly right — and suddenly it began to feel like home.

Bheed se shikaayat nahin rahi ab, Jis shahar mein tum ho, wo khaali nahin lagta.

I no longer complain about the crowds — a city that holds you can never feel empty.

Chhatri chhoti thi ya iraada bada tha, Aadha bheegna bhi poora yaad raha.

Was the umbrella small, or the intention large? Even getting half-drenched stayed whole in memory.

Tum sunte ho to lagta hai kehne laayaq hoon, Mohabbat shaayad isi bharose ka naam hai.

When you listen, I feel worth hearing — perhaps love is simply the name of that trust.

Koi khaas din nahin tha, mangalwaar tha, Tum yaad aaye aur tyohaar ho gaya.

It was no special day — just a Tuesday; you came to mind, and it turned into a festival.

Saare paighaam padhe, jawaab tumhin ko likha, Baaqi duniya bas notification hai.

I read all the messages, but replied only to yours — the rest of the world is just notifications.

Dheere-dheere boodha hona manzoor hai, Tere saath har umr jawaan lagti hai.

Growing old slowly is fine by me — beside you, every age feels young.

Naam tumhaara save hai saada sa, Dil mein magar poora qissa likha hai.

Your name is saved plainly in my phone — but in my heart, the entire story is written out.

How to send a love shayari without overdoing it

The strength of a love verse is dosage. One sher, sent at the right moment — after a call that went long, on a small anniversary, on an ordinary Tuesday for no reason at all — says more than a paragraph of declarations. Early in a relationship, choose the gentler lines about being understood rather than the intense ones about forever; let the poetry stay one step behind the relationship, never one step ahead.

Long-married couples have the opposite opportunity: the verses about quiet companionship land hardest precisely because nobody expects poetry anymore. Write one into an anniversary card, or send one on a day that isn't an occasion — the absence of a reason is the romance. And one caution that matters: love shayari is for someone who welcomes it. Sent unasked to someone who hasn't shown interest, even a beautiful verse becomes pressure — that is not what these are for.

Questions readers ask

Why does love shayari mix Hindi and Urdu words?
Because the genre grew up bilingual. The vocabulary of longing in this tradition — mohabbat, ishq, deedar, wafa — came through Urdu poetry, while the everyday warmth comes from Hindi. The blend (often called Hindustani) is what makes a love sher sound like a love sher; verses here use it naturally, and each comes with an English meaning so nothing is lost.
What should I send at the very start of a relationship?
Undersell, don't oversell. Pick the verses about comfort and being understood — the ones that could almost be about friendship — and stay away from eternity, destiny and "you are my everything" until the relationship has earned those words. A light verse that makes them smile does more early work than a heavy one that makes them nervous.
Are these verses my own to use? Do I need to credit anyone?
They are original to this site and written to be shared — sending one to your person is exactly their purpose, and the Copy button includes a small credit line automatically. If you want a verse that is truly only yours, use the composer: it writes an original sher from your own keywords, one that exists nowhere else.
