A “Happy Birthday” is nice; a birthday verse is personal. When someone you love adds a year, a couple of warm lines say what a forwarded sticker can’t — that you’re glad they were born, and that you wish them a year softer than the last.

Birthday verses — timing, pairing, personalising
In India the birthday message has a championship slot: midnight. If you are the 12:00 am message, the verse is the trophy — send the sher first, the "happy birthday" second, and you have won the day before it started. For elders, skip midnight (they are asleep and would rather you were too) and send with the morning wishes instead, choosing the blessing-toned verses over the playful ones.
Personalisation is cheap and priceless: add their name above the verse, or one line about the year they just had. For the people you love most, turn the verse into a card with the composer and let them set it as a status — a birthday card with Devanagari verse on it gets reshared through the whole family. And if you missed the day entirely, a belated verse with an honest "der se sahi, dil se hai" recovers more ground than any apology paragraph.
